IZRA

Designed as a collaboration between General Assembly and Salam Hello, each IZRA rug is a visualization of its own creation.

With varied sizes and colors to choose from, each rug is a unique design that is based on the days of weaving that were put into it's creation.

The number of columns in each rug is based on the number of women that worked on that rug. Each shade is picked by the weaver who worked on it that day, and each color block shows exactly how much weaving was accomplished in that sitting. The size of the blocks vary, reflecting the weavers' schedules.

IZRA (written as ⵉⵣⵔⴰ in Tachelhit, the native language of the artisans) loosely translates as ‘weave of the day".
